Inarticulate ramblings of a management consultant

the day to day experiences of a consultant operating in weird and wonderful client situations

About this blog…why does it exist

The thinker

Hi, my name is Ben de Haldevang and I’ve been a consultant for over 20 years….sounds a little like an AA opening and perhaps there is some similarity! Maybe it’s because I’ve never found anything sensible to do, or maybe because of my mixed heritage (German, Swiss, Scottish, Spanish, Czech, Russian), I seem to enjoy working in different environments and different countries…blame the parents!
Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked across 4 continents, on over 100 post merger integration projects and with 3 different companies. 2 of these I set up, and the other was as a result of a sale of my business where I was part of the sales ‘package’.
I cannot imagine doing anything else…which reflects my lack of imagination or the fact that I genuinely enjoy doing the job. Many of my friends come from my work…a sad indictment of my life.
What I’m trying to capture in my blog are the day to day experiences of a consultant operating in weird and wonderful client situations…they are observations and occasionally issues where I have a particular gripe. I’m not really sure what the purpose or benefit of reading it will be! Perhaps it will generate a laugh or a moment of recognition. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

  1. Ben, your comment in the FT (ExxonMobil article) led me to your blog.. and then recognised the name – perhaps you will remember. Hope you are well. My consulting life is a little different – Petroleum Reservoir Engineering – but the overlap into the world of change management always present.
    Best regards

  3. Found this site through a comment on FT. Really interesting. I am working on a large scale integration project right now and so many of your observations ring true.
